3.5/5 ★ – xeothe19th's review of ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN.
System Played: PC
Summary:
At first, I thought wtf is this. Then, as many people like to put it, it just "clicked". I loved the original Elden Ring, so the question was not "IF?" I was going to get hooked on this game, it was "when?".
Gameplay (9.5/10):
- The gameplay is very similar to Elden Ring, but it pushes you to move as fast as possible rather than take your time. I much prefer traditional souls gameplay. But the tradeoff of having to go fast is taking what you get in that small amount of time. In this game, I found myself using things I have never used in Elden Ring (and I have over 1k hrs). Things like the Ghostflame Torch, Flails (except on Greyoll), spells like Rejection, the Pulley Crossbow with infinite ammo, I could go on. This is what makes this game so much fun. Working with what you have while making split second decisions against the clock.
Graphics (9.5/10):
- Yes I'm biased. The performance sucks, and the graphics look like ps3 graphics, but the art style of FromSoft games translates through to this game. I still feel unease walking the city streets of Nokleo/Nokron. I still feel awe running through the magma chambers, or climbing the frosted peaks. The old gothic style of churches and mausoleums are always a joy to behold. The particles of spells and weapons still make me feel powerful (even tho im smol).
Soundtrack (9.5/10):
- The themes vary wildly, from epic themes (Gnoster, Night Aspect) to calm serenades (Round Table Hold). I can just as much hear the Gnoster fight as I can recall seeing it in my memory. Im sometimes working and hear the haunting tones of the Round Table hold in my subconscious while Im at work. FromSoft never fails to deliver epic themes.
Replayability (9.5/10):
- It doesnt take me much to pick up a greatsword and just randomly swing at enemies in base Elden Ring. Doesnt take me much either to just go on a run for fun in Nightreign.
Conclusion (9.5/10):
- And this game is still unfinished. Even though I got all the achievements, Im still itching to play more. Cant wait for more updates and the eventual DLC!
